You may have seen them powering through the streets of your suburb in their bright yellow shirts, but what exactly were they walking for?
Almost 100 walkers participated in this year’s Walk to Save Our Sons, a seven-day journey on foot travelling 160km across Sydney in March, to raise funds and awareness for a fatal condition called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy.
It’s the fourth annual walk for the charity, with parents, supporters and celebrities all taking part to raise more than $1 million for the charity.
This year marks 10 years since Save Our Sons was started by founder Elie Eid, after his son Emilio was diagnosed with Duchenne as a toddler, and since then they have helped to fund research in hope to find a cure for the disease.
Hatch reporter Tayla O’Brien caught up with Mr Eid and the charity’s supporters on their journey to discover a strong community committed to making a difference, one step at a time. – Video and interviews filmed, produced and edited by Tayla O’Brien.
